Zhejiang Hisoar Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd. was recently sued by Schering Corporation in the US at Shanghai No.2 Intermediate People’s Court for infringement of Schering’s patent on florfenicol, an antibiotic for animals.
Three companies, Zhejiang Hisoar Pharma, its sales arm Hisoar Pharma Sales Company and a Hong Kong-based trading company, were listed as defendants in this lawsuit. Schering seeks a total of CNY 500,000 for damages and legal fees and demands a stop of the infringement as well as an open apology on a Chinese veterinary journal.

Zhejiang Hisoar Pharma said the lawsuit took it by surprise as the company never received any prior communications about the matter from Schering. The company stated that it did not infringe on Schering’s patent and will defend itself in court.
