The State Food and Drug Administration published its draft of “Provisions on National Drug Code” on the public comments section of its website on April 30 and is now seeking comments from the public.
National drug code refers to a computer code in digital format used in the process of drug development, manufacturing, distribution, clinical application and regulation, according to the draft. The standard national drug code is consisted of 14 digits that include a country code, a national drug category code, a national drug body code and a verification code.
The code will be given and administered by the SFDA, and all drug products will receive the code from the SFDA upon its approval, according to the draft. When the registration of a drug product is withdrawn, the code will be forfeited too.
