China's Penicillin G Export in 2007 – Volume Fell While Price Rose

3/31/2008

According to Chinese Custom statistics, China exported a total of 13,631 tons of Penicillin G bulk drug in 2007 at an average price of US$20.37/kg. The export volume fell 7.62%, but the price grew as much as 93.46% last year.
The price hikes were caused by short supply in the year as a result of environmental regulatory enforcements and rising costs. Short supply and sharp price rises led to fast expansion of production capacity in the second half of the year and consequently the price fell sharply in late 2007.

Penicillin G bulk drug was exported to 43 countries and regions in 2007, and the leading five markets, India, UAE, Iran, Japan and USA account for 97.93% of all exports. The following table shows the export sales of this product to the leading ten export markets in 2007.
