CHINA has basically completed its first supervision network on "special drugs" to monitor the use of each injection and pill, a senior drug official said on October 8.
Special drugs refer to narcotics, psychotropics, poisons for clinical use and radioactive drugs that require special management under the country's drug adminstration law.
After one-year's work, the network can now monitor the production, purchase, sale and inventory of narcotic and some psychotropic drugs, said Gao Feng, an official in charge of special drugs under the State Food and Drug Administration.
Municipal-level drug administrations across the country are now connected to the network, Gao said. The administration will improve the network by cooperating with medical institutions to realize the goal – monitoring the use of each injection and pill – by the end of the 11th Five Year Plan Period (2006-2010), Gao said. The network can also share information with public security departments and health departments.
China now regulates the use of 121 narcotic drugs and 130 psychotropic drugs, and 13 narcotic drug and 193 psychotropic drug manufacturers across the country. |
